Snow Yak was formally established by a group of self-motivated youth as a non-government organization in Nepal in 2014, following years of informal activities in Upper Dolpa since 2011, with the objective of providing quality education Dolpa completely funded by the Nepali people.
Our Founder President Binod Shahi, a native of Kathmandu, first arrived in Dolpa in 2005 and saw how lack of education and proper health care were affecting the families in the region. Within a few months of his stay in Saldang village, where he was volunteering as a teacher, he decided to dedicate his life to the children of Dolpa. With the aid of locals, he started working on re-establishing closed government schools while convincing both the parents and children about the benefits of a good education. Thus, a group was formed which would later work in the education sector of the whole region.
Snow Yak aims to inspire Nepalese from all walks of life to feel responsible and help create opportunities for one of the most disadvantaged people of the nation. It envisions a tomorrow where each child in Nepal learns to take pride in his/her uniqueness, becomes a well-rounded individual equipped with practical life skills.
